At the beginning of the month, I planted a mixed native hedge at Chirk Court Care Home. I like planting a lot, not so much the physical aspect of planting itself, but the investment in the future. I’d love to spend more time planting.
Here’s a fence I did today that used conifer stumps as fence posts, something I’ve never done before but worked out fairly well. Before this the conifer ‘hedge’ was about 18 feet tall and 10 foot wide, making the small area really dark and imposing.
The aim of the YuuGrow smallholding, or farmden as I like to call it, is to provide a market garden supplier for fresh produce, seasonally, for the public and businesses in the Llangollen area.
We set up in October 2017 on a patch of land formerly used for growing herbs commercially. The 100ft polytunnel had been left for a couple of seasons and we slowly began restoring it to use this season. It’s been a difficult year for working outside, and the temperatures in the polytunnel aren’t increasing particularly well even now in March, but hopefully we’ll get a strong season.
We aim to have a range of products from the site; vegetables, eggs, charcoal, logs and craft items, which we’ll be selling from our shop here.
